Trailers and Insurance Coverage
Trailers and Insurance Coverage
State-owned trailers are required to have liability coverage. Liability provides coverage whether the trailer is free standing or being pulled by a vehicle or piece of equipment. Departments determine whether to add comprehensive and/or collision coverage.
There is no stipulation as to how a trailer is used, the size or weight of the trailer Typically trailers do not carry liability because liability would follow the vehicle. However, with the Master State Auto Policy, the carrier requires self-propelled and tagged vehicles/trailers to be scheduled.
If your department purchases an enclosed trailer and permanently attaches content inside, please reach out to our office.
