Origami Risk is an online risk management information platform used by Insurance and Risk Management that provides comprehensive asset inventory and claims management functions. All state-owned self-propelled vehicles are added, changed or removed in the university’s web based application. State-owned vehicles do NOT have insurance coverage until the vehicle is entered and approved in the Origami Risk system.
Origami Risk User Role
Each university department/college has an assigned Origami Vehicle Coordinator. Origami Vehicle Coordinators are provided the ability to submit change requests for their department’s autos, such as adding and surplusing vehicles, updating vehicle plate numbers and adding project numbers. Origami Vehicle Coordinators are also able to report auto incidents when they occur, which in turn are directly sent to Insurance and Risk Management for review and processing. If you are unsure who your Origami Department Coordinator is, or you do not have a coordinator, please contact us.
Adding a New Vehicle in Origami
All University-owned self-propelled vehicles must be entered into the Origami system in order to maintain liability insurance coverage.
To add a new vehicle in Origami Risk click the link “Adding a New Vehicle” training video or instruction manual.
Surplus a Vehicle in Origami
University departments/colleges must surplus state-owned vehicles according to the NC Department of Administration and NC State Surplus process. State-owned vehicles cannot simply be removed. Surplus vehicles include any self-propelled vehicle not drivable or badly damaged; no longer needed by the university department to continue its operation.
Origami Vehicle Coordinators must contact Procurement & Business Services to begin the Disposition of Property process. Origami Vehicle Coordinators should not begin the surplus process in Origami until all required documents are completed and the vehicle has been physically removed from NC State University’s property. Without the signed Surplus Disposal Form and removal confirmation, the surplus request cannot be approved nor remove insurance from the vehicle. Liability and/or physical damage insurance premiums will continue to be charged to the department if this is not completed.
To surplus a vehicle in Origami Risk click the “Surplus a Vehicle” training video or instruction manual..
Reasons to Surplus
There are different reasons why a department must surplus a vehicle in the Origami Risk system. Removing and deleting insurance from a state-owned vehicle is referred to as Surplus.
Methods to Surplus:
- State of North Carolina Surplus Property bid system
- Vehicles are removed from NC State University property and taken to the State of North Carolina Surplus site to be sold.
- Sold As-Is, Where-Is
- These vehicles are being sold at its current location instead of the State of North Carolina Surplus Property bid system. The vehicle will remain on NC State University property until it is sold.
- Stolen
- Involved in an accident and deemed as a total loss
- Being transferred to a different agency (even state agency).
