Student Intern Liability Coverage FAQs

Student Liability  Coverage Request form

Who needs this insurance?

Any student that will be doing an internship for a class with a Professional Liability exposure.

What is this insurance?

This provides NCSU students Professional Liability and General Liability coverage while interning for an outside organization or providing a service. This insurance would cover students in the event they are sued while acting within the scope and duties of their internship.

How can I get this coverage?

Any student who enrolls in an assigned internship class is automatically covered at the time of enrollment. Your student account will be charged by the University. (Please note that IRM does not take payments)

Does this cover students driving to offsite classes or lectures?

No it does not. When a student drives their personal vehicle for class assignments (or rides with another student in a personal/non-University vehicle), the student assumes the risks associated with driving or riding in a personal vehicle. The car owner’s personal automobile liability insurance is responsible for any incidents and the car owner must maintain at least the minimum automobile liability insurance required by law. The University does not provide auto liability insurance for students.

What if my syllabus says I need to sign up for this?

If you were not charged or unsure if you were charged $12 for signing up for the class, please reach out and we can double check for you.

Why was I charged $52.80 vs the normal $12.00?
