The university has a Master Drone Insurance policy, which covers all university-owned drones and related equipment reported to Insurance and Risk Management. The policy renews annually in July. Departments that purchase drones, should use this form to request insurance, which is found on our website.
The Master Drone policy provides $1,000,000 in liability coverage for $50 per drone annually. The liability insurance covers damage to property of others, and other liability exposures.
The Master Drone policy also provides physical damage coverage. Physical damage is optional and decided by the department. The annual physical damage cost is determined based on the year, make, model, and value of the drone. The deductible is approximately 10% of the drone’s value. Physical damage covers the direct and accidental physical loss of or damage to drones. Drone related equipment such as controllers and cameras can be insured on this policy as well.
Medical expense coverage is also provided under this policy in the event someone was to be injured from the operation of the drone.
