Breakdowns On Campus

NC State University’s Auto Shop is available for roadside assistance for breakdowns that happen on campus. The Auto Shop provides the following services:

  • Tire repair and replacement
  • Towing
  • Dead battery jump start

They are available during their normal business schedule Monday through Friday 7:15 am – 3:30 pm. Visit NC State Auto Shop to find out more information and other services provided by the department.

Breakdowns Off Campus

If you need roadside assistance while traveling off campus and have a WEX Card check with your department’s business officer. Towing and/or other maintenance charges may need approval from a director or AVC.

If towing your vehicle is required after hours and/or off campus, departments can have the vehicle towed to the NCSU Auto Shop at 621 Motor Pool Street, Raleigh, NC 27607 where they can assist with necessary repairs. Check with your department’s business officer as this service may need approval from a director or AVC.

Roadside Safety

Flat Tire

If your vehicle’s tire is going flat, slow down and pull completely off the right side of the road. Turn on your emergency flashers. Make sure there is a space between your car and the oncoming traffic so you can enter and exit your vehicle safely.

When a tire blows, there is a loud noise and the car begins to swerve. If that should happen, do the following:

  • Hold the steering wheel tightly and try to keep the vehicle straight on your side of the road
  • Take your foot off the gas to reduce speed
  • Do not apply the brakes
  • Allow the vehicle to slow down on its own
  • Find a safe place to move the vehicle completely off the road

Maintenance Issues

When your vehicle is having maintenance issues do the following:

  • Exit the main part of the road or move the vehicle completely onto the shoulder of the road
  • Stand off the road and away from the car. Do not stand in front of or to the rear of the vehicle
  • If you need help, tie a white cloth to the left door handle or the radio antenna and raise the hood of the car
  • Turn on the emergency flashers
  • If the vehicle becomes disabled on the roadway, do not remain in the vehicle. Activate your car’s emergency flashers. Stand to the side of the roadway while waiting for assistance
